Apprentice Questions: Preparing for a Prospect Meeting

Today’s Question is for Alex Ruch, Senior Associate of Industrial Sales & Leasing in Baton Rouge, LA.

Laurie: My question is, how do you best prepare for a meeting?

Alex Ruch: First, I make sure my hair is well-parted. Second, I make sure I have no food in my teeth. Third, I just wing it—just kidding!

When meeting with a seller, I like to know what they paid for the property and when they paid that price for it. If I’m working with a buyer, I like to know what the rest of their portfolio currently looks like. I like to get into the mind of a seller or buyer so that I can think like they would be thinking. This helps me anticipate questions, ask important questions that get at their motives, and help them think through the best way to move forward.

Don’t wing it.

ELIFIN® apprentices are encouraged to be curious and ask questions to get the most out of the program. “Being an apprentice is different than being an intern,” says Mathew Laborde, President & CEO of ELIFIN®. “It’s more exclusive. It’s more substantial.” ELIFIN® apprentices dig into hands-on work from day one, getting experience that sets them apart in the commercial real estate industry and beyond.
