15 Jul Apprentice Questions: Deciding on a Career
Today’s Question is for Mathew Laborde, President & CEO of ELIFIN®, from Lukas Swaney in our Columbus, Ohio office.
Lukas Swaney: When did you know that this is the field you wanted to pursue in life?
Mathew Laborde: I would never limit myself to say that this is the field I want to pursue in my life. When you’re coming up in your career and thinking, “Hey, what field am I going to be in? What am I going to do with the rest of my life?” I don’t think you have to answer that question definitively. I still don’t have the answer to that question. I would never limit myself to one field, one job, or one thing.
On the flip side, even though you don’t have to limit yourself in that way, start now. Follow your curiosity. Whatever you’re interested in, get as close to the field as you can. Get as close to the activity, the profession, and those practicing the profession as you can… and get in it.
ELIFIN® apprentices are encouraged to be curious and ask questions to get the most out of the program. “Being an apprentice is different than being an intern,” says Laborde. “It’s more exclusive. It’s more substantial.” ELIFIN® apprentices dig into hands-on work from day one, getting experience that sets them apart in the commercial real estate industry and beyond.
