Before repointing, the joints will be rinsed with a jet of water to remove all loose particles and dust. Remove damaged bricks and replace with bricks (provided by client). Filling the Joints: Where existing mortar has been removed to a depth of greater than 1 inch, deeper areas will be filled first, compacting the new mortar in several layers. The back of the entire joint will be filled successively by applying mortar, packing it well into the back corners. As soon as the mortar has reached thumb-print hardness, another layer of mortar-approximately the same thickness-will be applied. Several layers may be needed to fill the joint flush with the outer surface of the masonry and time for the mortar to harden between layers to achieve optimum adhesion.
