Apprentice Questions: Protecting Your Time

Today’s Question is for Jacob Loveland, Office Sales & Leasing Specialist in Baton Rouge, LA.

Josh: What is the biggest mistake that you made starting out in commercial real estate?

Jacob Loveland: Not protecting my time properly. You see this a lot with newer agents. It’s super common. When you’re starting out, you don’t have a book of business, you don’t have any clients. It can become very easy to spend time on things that aren’t super profitable or super probable. When you spend more time on that stuff than on things like cold calling, canvassing, or pitching deals, it’s really a lose-lose for everyone. I’m not saying you shouldn’t go out of your way to help people out. Always go out of your way for your clients. What I do now when I’m approached with any situation is to take a step back and figure out if it is worth spending my time on. Because at the end of the day, time is one of the most important aspects of our job, and you have to protect it at all costs.
